Ireland claimed a fourth Grand Slam with a hard fought 29-16 victory over 14-man England in Dublin. England made a confident start and took an early lead through two Owen Farrell penalty kicks. Ireland had started slowly, but went into the lead when Dan Sheehan crashed over for a try in the 33rd minute. England were reduced to 14-men just before half-time when Freddie Steward was red-carded for a dangerous challenge. After the break, England were again first to score when Farrell struck his third penalty. Robbie Henshaw scored Ireland's second try as their man advantage started to show. Sheehan got his second try shortly afterwards as Ireland pulled clear of England. Jamie George was pushed over for an England try in the 73rd minute to give the visitors a feint hope.
