Italy v Wales Match Reports

Wales got their first win of the Six Nations campaign with a morale-boosting 29-17 victory over Italy in Rome. Tries from Rio Dyer and Liam Williams – plus a penalty try for a collapsed rolling maul – saw the visitors take an unexpected 22-3 half-time lead. Italy blundered a number of chances to score in a frustrating first half with handling errors made at crucial moments. The hosts threatened a fightback when Sebastian Negri scored a try soon after the break, but Pierre Bruno was then sin-binned for dangerous play, which reduced Italy to 14-men for the second time in the match. A Rhys Webb break put Taulupe Faletau over in the 50th minute as Wales claimed a bonus point. Juan Ignacio Brex crossed in the 68th minute to give the hosts renewed hope of a comeback. Italy pressed hard in the final quarter, but poor handling near the try line continued to frustrate their efforts on a disappointing day for the Azzurri.
