Italy v Scotland Match Reports

Italy held off Scotland to earn an 18-15 victory in heavy rain at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The hosts made the better start as Louis Lynagh and Tommaso Menoncello both crossed early in the first half. Jack Dempsey responded for Scotland midway through the half, but Italy led 15-7 in driving rain at half-time. Finn Russell and Paolo Garbisi traded penalty kicks early in the second half as the rain continued. Replacement George Horne scored a try in the 67th minute to give Scotland hope, but the conversion was missed, leaving the visitors three points adrift. Scotland won a penalty as the clock turned red but were unable to kick for goal. They went through 29 phases in search of a winning score, but the Italian defence held firm to secure a deserved win.
