England are hopeful that Tom Willis will be able to resume training on Tuesday as they begin preparations for their Six Nations clash with Italy at Allianz Stadium.

Willis failed a head injury assessment during the 16-15 victory over Scotland on February 22 and has been progressing through the graduated return to play protocols.

The Saracens number eight has been included in a 35-man squad named for Sunday’s Italy showdown and is on course to complete all he stages in time to take part in the first practice session of the week.

Flankers Ben Earl and Tom Curry have also rejoined the main squad after being placed on modified training programmes for last week’s camp in York.

England have recovered from a conclusive loss to Ireland on the opening weekend of the tournament by registering victories over France and Scotland, placing them back in title contention.

They close out the Championship against Italy and Wales, with head coach Steve Borthwick scheduled to name his team to face the Azzurri on Friday.
